One Year down, forever to go

Ben and I celebrated our one year anniversary Thanksgiving weekend, November 29.  It was a great but VERY full weekend!

We started the weekend with a Friday Thanksgiving dinner at our house.  Since it was on Friday and not Thursday I called it the “McPherson Turkey Day”.  It was my first “Turkey Day” and I must say, I think I did a really great job.  everyone left happy with a belly full of turkey.

The day started out with my surprise trip, for Ben, to go visit our new little puppies that we would be adopting on Monday.  I set the whole thing up without Ben knowing as an early anniversary gift.  He still had no idea what was going on when we walked into the house.  That is when he saw the five little puppies, looked over at me and exclaimed, “PUPPIES”, with a huge smile on his face.

He has been wanted a puppy for about a year now and has let me know almost daily.  He had been so excited about the thought of getting a puppy that I regularly found him cruising the pet isle while we were shopping at Schnucks, Target, Sams, Wal-Mart or wherever it was that we happened to be shopping.  He also has become a HUGE fan of “The Dog Whisper” with Cesar Milan, who whenever Ben tries to tell someone about his books and show he calls Cesar Chavez.  This still makes me laugh out loud!

So, i figured why not do it up right and get him two puppies! We went home that morning planning to go pick up our girls on Monday after getting the house ready and getting the necessary “puppy things” ie. baby gate, puppy caring crates, leashes and collars etc.

I was starting Turkey Day dinner when Ben came bouncing into the kitchen and began to beg, “Can I pleeeeese go pick up my puppies, NOW?”  I caved and said, “Sure, go get them some puppy kibble first, though”. So, about an hour later Ben showed up with our two little girls.  Alice June & Jenny Olive or as Ben has nicknamed them A.J. & JO!  They sure are precious!!! 🙂  Here are some pictures of Ben with his two little girls.

Ben picking up the puppies definitely made our “Turkey Day” preparations interesting.  The puppies needed a bath because they smelled of smoke.  They also were a little whinny because they missed their mommy and daddy.   They were under my feet the entire time I cooked and I ended up with no time to shower but it was all worth it!

G-ma & G-pa Mc showed up an hour early which turned out to be helpful since G-ma Marge helped me finish up cooking while Ben scrubbed the floors and loaded the dishes.

Dinner turned out wonderful and everyone enjoyed playing with Jenny & Alice.

Here are some pictures of “Turkey Day”.

On Saturday we took a car trip with A.J. & JO to visit Momma & Daddy.  Daddy had the whole neighborhood and all of our friends and family helping move some trusses at the “Rehab house”

While Daddy and his crew moved trusses, the girls played with the puppies.  Jamie & Aunt Cathy had gone Christmas shopping so, Momma was watching the girls.  Grace just LOVED the puppies!  She kept saying, “My puppy, my puppy”.  Emma was very interested in how much everything cost.  She wanted to know how much puppies cost and their leashes and collars.  She says she is going to save up all of her money to get a puppy for her and Grace.  They are both so cute!  Here are some pictures of the girls with our girls. 🙂

Saturday evening KO came over to visit and see the puppies while she was in town for the weekend.  We got in a good visit and she had a blast with the puppies.  She is actually allergic to dogs but for some reason the girls gave her no trouble at all.  They are just good like that! 🙂  I got a lot of cute shots of her with JO & A.J.  Here are a couple of them.

As our unusually busy weekend drew to a close it was our anniversary day.  On Sunday morning bright and early we woke up and headed to Momma & Daddy’s house with the babies.  Momma was super excited to puppy sit.  She even did a post on FB all about how excited she was and promised pictures to follow.  🙂  I think she is in need of some grand babies!!  Two more years and we will make that happen.

Anyway, by 7am we were at The Logan house back door with the puppies and all of their gear.  Yes they have “gear” just like babies.  They have a playpen that zips closed, puppy chow, potty training pads, leashes and many, many chew toys.  (They still bite right now so we are trying to keep their mouths full)

Oh I forgot to mention!!  Our house kitchen sink flooded the entire kitchen and dinning room Friday after dinner.  So we had dishes all over the place that still needed to be done and by Sunday we finally had to call and almost yell to get someone out there.  We told them on Friday night that it had started leaking.  After they did not come on Saturday it exploded while we were out.  We came home to one HUGE mess!  So, Sunday they were coming to fix it.  That is why we were up at the crack of dawn to get our little monsters out-of-the-way.

Any-hoo, we napped at the parents house for a while.  I went to visit with Aunt Cathy and she made Daddy, Uncle Steve, Ben & I ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches.  YUM!  After breakfast we headed over to St Louis to take in a Rams game.  The lost but it was a fun game.  We also saw some old friends afterward while making the trek back up the stairs from our totally amazing seats.  Thanks, Bob for letting us use the company seats!!  Another plus of the day was that the ticket were free and parking and snacks were covered thanks to the $100 we got from Ben’s parents for our anniversary, a very unexpected yet exciting surprise.

Here are two pictures from the game.

After the game we went to pick up our babies and took them home.  On the way we picked up “Slumdog Millionaire” and “The Ugly Truth” and some Pizza Hut.  The babies went to sleep on our laps while we had “dinner & a movie” home style!  A great way to cap off our long weekend.

OH!  I almost forgot!!! What did Ben get me?  He added to my already fabulous wedding rings. Here is a picture of my new bling!!!
